	Started loading the trailer this morning and my back went. So bad Nevaeh had to ring 999 and when they arrived gave me the option of going into hospital or staying at home. They did say hospital might not be able to do anything but would take me if I wanted.  Chose to stay at home and nearly passed out when they put me in a chair to move me and required oxygen and air
</p>

<p>
	After more than 2 hours monitoring me and one going to a chemist after speaking to my GP I am now sat with Nevaeh looking after me, Jackie is in Scotland until Thursday evening.
</p>

<p>
	The outcome at the moment is tablets and rest with 3 options,  1) okay to load trailer etc Friday am but lots involved with that, 2) I can take a lot of stock for display, 3) worst case is I cannot make it.
</p>

<p>
	Gutted is an understatement.

	I have just received the new 08 and a J50. I also bought my first two 6 pin decoders due to the lack of Next18. So I spent most of last night trying to get them to work. I got both decoders fully updated/linked eventually. They showed as blue in the app but no movement at all, not even the little stutter some report. This was still the case after doing all the usual reload firmware/update decoder etc. I decided to concentrate on the 08. I also thought let us see if it works on DCC. I flipped it to DCC but it did not seem to link up (DCC software a bit of a faff) so just flicked it back to Bluetooth. Tried running it again and it RAN!!!! And it is still running!!! I have fitted one of my stay alives to keep the Bluetooth alive and we are off to the races.
</p>

<p>
	Just now let us see what can be done about the J50. It was still linked to my old iPad (as are all my locos) and still nothing from the J50 when setting the throttle in the app to 25. This had been the case with both locos all last night until I happened to flick to DCC and back on the 08. At the time I did not think too much about this stage of the testing.
</p>

<p>
	So I just did the same on the J50. Flick to DCC mode in the app and then back to Bluetooth AND IT MOVES ALSO!!!!!!
</p>

<p>
	What in the world is happening here???!!!
</p>

<p>
	Anyway, I have now two working locos with the 6 pin decoder. I have not stayalived or even put back the J50 body yet but am now pretty confident of unexpected success.
</p>

<p>
	So if you are have problems with the 6 pin you might want to give this a try.

	Setting Up An ABC Shuttle

<p>
	At a request from <span><a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="https://staging-community.hornbyhobbies.com/profile/937307-av59/?do=hovercard" data-mentionid="937307" href="https://staging-community.hornbyhobbies.com/profile/937307-av59/" rel="">@AV59</a></span>, this is how I set the shuttle run up on my layout
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<b><u>Kit required </u></b>
</p>

<p>
	DCC source
</p>

<p>
	Hornby Next18 decoder or larger (8 and 6 pins don’t have the required CV options)
</p>

<p>
	DCC Concepts DCD-ABC.1 ABC Board (Single Pack) (there is also a 3 pack available)
</p>

<p>
	Cable
</p>

<p>
	HM7000 app
</p>

<p>
	Simple wiring as per my very poor diagram, but you get the idea, there is also a switch option on the ABC module to turn the shuttle off
</p>

<p>
	CV settings
</p>

<p>
	These two settings will need tweaking depending on your stopping distance and how quickly you want to accelerate away
</p>

<p>
	CV3<span>      </span>10
</p>

<p>
	CV4<span>      </span>10
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	CV27  - set to both rails
</p>

<p>
	CV125 <span> </span>2 - this CV denotes it is a shuttle operation
</p>

<p>
	CV126 <span> </span>7 -<span> </span>this controls how long you want to hold at each stop, maximum 5 minutes
</p>

<p>
	CV127 8 - Breaking distance, again will need tweaking depending on your stopping distance
</p>

<p>
	CV128 1  - DCC sensitivity, I have left this as the default setting
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	That’s about it, Jenny Kirk did a great video explaining the HM7000 set up, but its all documented in the HM7000 Decoder manual
</p>

<p>

	Have fun

	This may seem like a daft question. Before the question, I discovered tonight that sugar cube speakers (as per the pinned thread) really do get hot. Mine in my new Sunderland class 66 got so hot there was an almost burning smell! It also wouldn’t play the sounds properly.
</p>

<p>
	It seems it is faulty and I need to replace it, but it seems impossible to buy one. At least with the cables and little white plug the original Hornby one came with
</p>

<p>
	Can anyone please point me in the direction of where I can get one?

	So I've had a lovely afternoon playing trains. All HM7K - I've had Terrier, Normandy, 08 and my 37 pootling around with sound and lights and me chuckling and its been great, no issue, until that is, I thought I would try my lovely green 37 on my inner radius 2 loop - around the first bend, pretty slowly and it was great, around the 2nd bend which, at the end I have a point and the loco stopped - I discovered that the point motor wire was sitting a little proud. So I thought I would trim the wire down, I rolled the loco back, got my wire nippers out and as a cut the wire, I touched the track - there were sparks - I hadn't powered anything off like an idiot.
</p>

<p>
	I immediately turned everything off - trimmed the wire etc. I fired the track back up and all my 6010s reconnected, the majority of locos reconnected and I could send them on their way. Unfortunately, my 37 won't reconnect - doesn't get a bluetooth connection whatsoever. I've opened her up and checked the board - it looks fine - no evidence of burning etc. and there is no smell either. So my question is exactly as the title says - have I fried my decoder? What are the steps I can follow to determine the genuine demise of my adaptor or is there a series of tricks I can follow to bring it back?
</p>

<p>
	Thanks in advance

	My original thinkings were this TT:120 scale would be a great ouster for N scale as its bigger yet smaller for those of us with largish hands and less real estate than HO/OO. I guess still correct to a degress, but...
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	1. If going down the Bluetooth / App route, as I was, then dont bother buying a locomotive without HM7000 pre-installed. Just woe's and troubles galore. AKA Shunter 08 and a separately bought 6 pin HM7000 decoder issue after issue, so far. Not a good experience. 1st day, yes, but come on!
</p>

<p>
	2. Had an issue with my 1st Intercity-125 HM7000 trainset. One crash and cam shaft dislodged. Sent in for repair and after 3 months got it back to find out there was also an issue with the bogey. Cam shaft turned, but wheels didnt. I guess awesome QC check after the repair. Sorry, but a bit p'd off at that. So now need to send it back after multiple times opening the power car as they cant view external video files. In doing so the connection for the coupler has now also departed. Frustration. Still to return it, again, as been working away again.
</p>

<p>
	3. The brighter side. Second Intercity-125 HM7000 trainset working a charm. Even pulling all 6 coaches and the dummy car and my 1st trainset bought; The scotsman, running fine.
</p>

<p>
	4. Oh wait, both of these did have issues with HM7000 where i had to unasign all and delete all and add them all back in again after working away from home for 9 months. Bit of a pita. <span><span class="ipsEmoji">😐</span> </span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span>So for now, for me, the jury is hung. Its either carry on, which I want to do and actually put a proper layout together, or sell up. I just dont know!</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span>Oh one last point... For the love of the children WHY doesnt Hornby do a stay alive small enough for the 08?</span>
</p>

	Just like network rail I decided to wait to the bank holiday weekend to do track maintenance (actually fastening it down) on my 6’ x 4’ (1.83m x 1.22m) layout. Finally painted the plywood board, bit darker than I wanted but I can work with that. It’s also way over budget just like HS2 (just ment to be a starter set and a bit of extra track on a small board) and more complicated than I originally planned. <br />

</p>

<p>
	it’s my first attempt so I’m sticking with plain flat at the moment with a view to changing this later. It’s a DC layout as my experience with DCC was not a good one. This may change in the future also. The three loops are R4, 3 &amp; 2 and I’ve isolated the fish plates on the points that lead from one circuit to the other to help prevent shorts. <br />

</p>

<p>
	The outer large loops are for large rake express trains and the inner small is for short local passenger and slow freight. <br />

</p>

<p>
	I know it’s not much compared to some of the amazing layouts I’ve seen on here but this is just the start and hopefully it will evolve along the way.

	A lot of you may know this but many. many clearly don't so I thought this would be useful.
</p>

<p>
	In the CV settings for the HM7000 deocoder there are some settings for what sounds over and above the standard AFC sounds the loco makes when it is standing still and another lot for when it is running. Sometimes these are populated at setup and it seems to me sometimes they are not. In either case they seem to be set to sequential (one after the other) but I prefer random which they can be set to.
</p>

<p>
	So to get access to the settings go to Locomotive settings for the one you want to change. Chose the Advanced CV settings at the top menu. Refesh the CVs with the little curly arrow if needed then scroll down to CV59 to CV66. CV59 and CV63 can be set to sequential or random - I set to Random
</p>

<p>
	The CV60-62 are to set the sounds for the train to play when it is running. Clearly you don't want the Close Doors sound to play when running nor Flange Squeal to operate when stationary. For each CV you can turn on/off each of 8 function sounds. Below are the settings I use for some of the locos as the sounds are obviously different between the different loco types. Have fun!!!

<p>
	Running Sounds Functions   2,3,4,5,6,8,10,11,12,13,14,17,20

</p>

<p>
	Stationary Sounds Functions 2,3,5,7,8,9,10,11,14,15,16,17,18,19
</p>

<p>

<p>
	Running Sounds Functions   2,3,4,5,6,8,10,11,12,13,14,16,17,19,20
</p>

<p>
	Stationary Sounds Functions 1,2,3,7,9,10,11,12,13,15,16,17,18,20

<p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Some may say 'Ahhh but it does not make that sound when stationary!' My answer to that is I don't care! Perhaps the same person could add the sounds for locos I have not put here.

	As I have updated the exhibitions thread with more dates for my micro layout, I figured it would be a good idea to start a thread to share details / pictures of "TTeam Red" and associated traction and rolling stock.
</p>

<p>
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="//media.invisioncic.com/n326458/monthly_2025_07/IMG_20250516_105951_4052.jpg.86d35bb58c97a2de16fbfc4fbcfef445.jpg" data-fileid="33115" data-fileext="jpg" rel=""><img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="33115" data-ratio="64.60" width="1000" alt="IMG_20250516_105951_4052.thumb.jpg.57c444a01f2967f5ace18ff9c8c4e696.jpg" data-src="//media.invisioncic.com/n326458/monthly_2025_07/IMG_20250516_105951_4052.thumb.jpg.57c444a01f2967f5ace18ff9c8c4e696.jpg" src="https://staging-community.hornbyhobbies.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></a>
</p>

<p>
	It's basically a 'pointless' powered diorama, fed by fiddlesticks / cassettes. DC analogue control. It is essentially completed, but there is always scope to add more clutter.
</p>

<p>
	The idea is that it is a contemporary servicing facility, a geographic nomad inspired by the DB  facility at Tees Yard, with a diesel locomotive fuelling point and inspection berth, a wagon repair shed (in part relief - not full length), and an associated jacking pad. So a reason for poorly wagons to pitch up for mainly wheelset changes, and no need for full rakes of wagons either <span class="ipsEmoji">😁</span>.
</p>

<p>
	The back road is the fuel storage delivery, with rail tankers delivering the fuel, very rare by the mid 20 teens, but a few prototype inspirations were grabbed to justify this, mainly the green TTA's used to deliver fuel to Freightliners Ipswich station FP, certainly till the mid / late 20 teens.
</p>

<p>
	The overall philosophy is that I have attempted to model a corner of something bigger, like the concrete pad extends off the side and front of the layout to the imagined car park, additional wheelset storage, and artic unloading pad, workshop, etc......
</p>

<p>
	I tried to avoid the bridge view blocker concept to the fiddle area, instead its hidden in plain sight, i.e. wagon shed is a through road, fuelling point road hidden by the wagon shed and fuel storage road hidden by the fuel storage tanks.
</p>

<p>
	So, below are a few photos to get the ball rolling on this thread..... Hope folks find it interesting.

<p>
	So far, not very much traction and rolling stock, but it is all cohesive, proving that a convincing roster is possible despite the relative newness of the British outline stuff.
</p>

<p>
	So far, its <span>:-</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>08623 - Hornby</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>60039 "Dove Holes" - Lincoln Locos 3d print (currently non powered placeholder - a bespoke motorised chassis is on the way from a modelling friend)</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>66097 - Hornby</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>IFA flat x1 - Hornby</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>TTA rail tanker x 3 - Hornby</span>
</p>

<p>
	I have some 3d print MEA's to process through the workbench so they might be the next additions in time.
</p>

<p>
	I will add more stuff as we go along, such as look backs at the layout construction and features on weathering and modifications to personalise and enhance the traction and rolling stock.

	Well, we are not that far away, so let’s crack on with speculating, seeing as it’s a fun part of this hobby
</p>

<p>
	I'm going with the following
</p>

<p>
	GOLDEN ARROW or BOURNEMOUTH BELLE trainset to replace the easterner set, featuring a Bulleid pacific and 3 Pullmans
</p>

<p>
	Unrebuilt Bulleid Pacifics
</p>

<p>
	A GWR steam locomotive
</p>

<p>
	Class 31 livery announcement
</p>

<p>
	Class 47 CAD
</p>

<p>
	Finally we WILL get BG mk1’s
</p>

<p>
	Green Mk1’s
</p>

<p>
	Toad brakevan
</p>

<p>
	Seacows
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	and to throw caution to the wind as an out of the box thinking item, (everyone should have an out of the box thought) heljan will announce a Garrett!

	In the spirit of some of the speculative threads: where do we think the scale will be in four years' time, based on current trajectories?
</p>

<p>
	Wild speculation of course!

	Hello,
</p>

<p>
	What show would you suggest to a foreigner? I'd like to visit UK most likely ones per year so really need a good suggestion.
</p>

<p>
	I was thinking about: <strong>Model World LIVE (Key Model World LIVE / National Modelling Exhibition)</strong> — <strong>25–26 Apr 2026</strong>
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Is it good? It there better?</strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>PS: Yes this is more general topic, but I've intentionally post it in TT as I do not read General forum</strong>

	Hello I’ve just bought a 500g bag of Gaugemaster grey ballast GM1901 (GM115) N scale
</p>

<p>
	There are lots of sparkly bits in it. I don’t know if this is just a bad batch or not. Has anyone else used this? <br />
	The pic doesn’t do it justice it’s worse than this. So disappointing if it’s all like this as I was going to buy more. And if it’s all like this I’m surprised anyone uses it. <br />
