The Tri-ang Railways model of the diesel shunter model was one of the earlier members of their early expanded range. First being introduced in 1956, the first generation mouldings saw many changes and improvements through the years, and survived through 1975. In early years, it was available in both electric and clockwork versions. This image is from the 1956, Tri-ang Railways 2nd edition catalogue.

By 2004, a new super detailed, and very realistic model was made available, although to this day, the venerable 1976 model survives in fashion, through today, with many releases in the Railroad ranges of models.

In 1976, a much improved model was introduced, yet retained the revised new standard, but anachronistic inside frame chassis. R.156 was the first release, this one dates to the first production batch of November 1976. She featured an X-03 motor, again with standard gearing, separate ladders, and a novel patented automatic uncoupling mechanism, which allowed the locomotive to uncouple from its train anywhere on the layout. In this form, the model remained available through 1979.

Through the years, the early model was produced bearing traditional BR liveries of black, green, and blue. It was also made for the Transcontinental markets, in other colours. Alternative liveried models are today, quite rare.
